Dr. Meerdink and Sam Taylor attended the 2024 American Geophysical Union's annual conference in Washington, D.C., where they presented work on invasive species and harmful algal bloom detection.

Riley Pacer was selected as one of the top 25 entries in the University of Iowa Capture Your Research Competition. She will be featured in the awards ceremony on November 12th and she is in the running for the People's Choice vote. Vote by November 3rd to support her!

On October 18th, GSS department graduate students participated in the 3 Minute Thesis competition in the departmental colloquium. The first-place winner of this competition was Sam Taylor, the honorable mention winner was Victoria Harris, and the peoples' choice winner was Matthew Kucmanic. Congratulations, presenters!

The most recent cohort of the Edge of Space Academy got hands-on with space-based instrumentation, conducting research, and working as a team as part of the immersive program led by the Department of Physics and Astronomy and Department of Geographical and Sustainability Sciences.

Congratulations to Mainul Islam, who was selected for the NASA DEVELOP program this summer! DEVELOP cultivates the next generation of leaders and Earth observation users. We work with communities and organizations to address environmental and policy concerns through the practical application of NASA Earth science information. In this competitive program, those selected participate in a 10-week program in interdisciplinary teams of 4-5 people.

Hannah Bäck, an undergraduate researcher in LOQATE, was selected to be featured in the 2024 University of Iowa Dare to Discover Downtown banner campaign.
