Mainul studies the uses of remote sensing in exploring plant/leaf scale traits. His primary focus is on understanding photosynthetic capacity parameters in relation to different environmental conditions. He uses different statistical methods in Python and R environment to observe the relationships between the parameters and conditions to conclude the interactions. Previously he did his master's thesis on post-cyclone impact and recovery of mangrove forests in Bangladesh. He is currently teaching the Foundations of GIS Lab in the Department of Geographical and Sustainability Sciences of the University of Iowa. He taught Physical Geography laboratory and Geography of Wines during his TAing at Kent State University, Ohio.
