Sam Taylor, LOQATE PhD Candidate, won an honorable mention in the 2023 University of Iowa's Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.

Data Science major Hannah Bäck, mentored by Dr. Susan Meerdink, presented “Remote Detection of Harmful Algal Blooms” at the 2023 Spring Undergraduate Research Festival (SURF) on March 29th. Great work, Hannah!

To recognize the work that mentors put in to make their student's experiences successful, ICRU created the Distinguished Mentor Award (DMA). Students are invited to nominate their faculty research mentor as a huge "Thank you!" for the time and talent their mentors have given.

The Edge of Space Academy, spearheaded by faculty and staff including Dr. Susan Meerdink and Adam Skibbe of the Geographical and Sustainability Sciences Department, was recently featured in an article by Richard C. Lewis for This Is UIowa. From a pool of three dozen candidates, 12 undergraduates were selected from 8 states to participate in the Edge of Space Academy, a summer program putting Iowa on the map with hands-on astrophysics research.
